Being a great MC requires people skills and pleasing people is my primary passion. As a professional MC my job is to interact with you (the client), your guests or audience, and the other professionals you have selected to help create your memorable event. In their own way events are a team sport with many different professionals contributing their talents and I thrive on being a team player. It's a lot like mixing the ingredients in a recipe to create a great dish. Too much of one or not enough of another, something added in the wrong order and things won't turn out well
The MC and your event coordinator will partner their efforts to keep your event on schedule and your timeline running smoothly. If you don't have an event coordinator an MC will often act as your day of director keeping your schedule running on time and all of the personalities and talents of your team working together in harmony.
By their very nature the types of events that require a professional MC are called "special events" for a reason. Your event is not a scripted play where everything happens exactly as planned. Years of experience have taught me that being prepared and knowing the timeline are essential pieces of information that I need to know. Equally important is the ability to be flexible, to respond to the spontaneous moments that will arise with confidence and in a style that complements your desired outcome. The pressure is on any MC to get things right the first time because there are no do overs.
Of course we always hope for the best but when things don't go as planned the best MC competently deals with unexpected complications without drawing unnecessary attention to them. I perform best under pressure and can think on my feet which affords me the luxury of turning spontaneous moments into remarkable memories. Some of the greatest memories I have of events I've MC'ed were unplanned opportunities where I was able to seize the moment and create uproarious laughter or sentimental tears.
One of the best compliments I often receive from past clients is that at the end of the day they feel I exceeded their expectations on many levels. Often they think they are simply hiring a guy to talk into a microphone. When I am able to answer questions for them offering insights and advice during their planning stages to being the person able to keep their event timeline running smoothly on the day itself, they realize there is much more to being an MC then successfully narrating an event.
Your event will create it's own energy and take on a life of it's own. My job is to nurture and guide that energy making sure your guests or audience enjoy their experience and that you are also able to enjoy your own event right along with them because you know I'm there for you and that the success of your event and your best interests are always my number one priority.
